Weird guilty pleasures include watching ABC Family original Christmas movies, putting barbecue sauce on macaroni and cheese, and thrifting for clothes that look like they could've been worn by Fran Drescher or a member of the Golden Girls cast. Somehow, thanks to my grand powers of manipulation, I convinced Maggie to come thrifting with me. Keeping in mind that most of our "adventures" turn into horrific stories (e.g. getting lost in the woods and hitchhiking with a 40-year-old man and his son, getting a flat tire and paying a pizza guy to fix our tire, etc.) this time was hardly different. While I might have emotionally (and maybe physically?) scarred Maggie from digging through racks of mystery-stained Christmas sweaters and sketchy "This Is My Beer Drinking Shirt" shirts, I did happen to stumble upon some (still mystery-stained) winners. Christmas Kitten Sweatshirts aside, there was no talking me out of buying a very Clueless-esque plaid suit dress. Equipped with some VERY retro shoulders pads, vintage cuffs and buttons, and a smell kind of like the inside of our broken refrigerator in the Chi O second floor kitchen, this dress and I had a moment in the middle of America's Thrift and decided to elope. Jk, but I did buy it and go up to everyone I saw within the next 24 hours and tell them how cool it was. Needless to say, no one was quite as enthused by it's moth-balls-smelling glamour as I was. If you're not as into dressing like Cher Horowitz as I am but are still over-eager to break out your flannels/plaid shirt dresses/traditional kilts, go for it. Plaid is like every Mario Lopez movie you've ever watched--cute and perfect and you love it so much and then forget about it for a while and then remember it around Christmas time when you see commercials for Holiday in Handcuffs on ABC Family and you're right back in love (okay, not exactly the same, but you get the idea.) If you don't believe me, look at all this plaid!!! On this slightly scary Alexander Wang Fall 2015 model!! Fall street style! Male model in a kilt!! Suit Dress: Thrifted from America's Thrift Stores in Athens ($5) Making my sophisticated-uptown-woman dreams come true. This double breasted plaid/velvet combo dress will come in handy for all of the board meetings I'll be leading and all the boy tears I'll be drinking.
Earrings: Vintage from Lizzie B's Vintage in Fayetteville, AR ($11) If you live in the NWA area, be sure to visit Lizzie B's for vintage jewelry and home goods!! I've gotten so many awesome things there besides these earrings, like my favorite gold chain choker and some other great costume jewelry. Platform Boots: H&M ($35) Actually my favorite boots in the world right now. I searched and searched and SEARCHED for platform/cleated/mega man-eater boots for weeks and finally found my dream pair (below $50) at H&M. Click here for my exact pair! Lipstick: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Mulberry Wine from Sephora ($24) Worth the hype. If you're looking for a long-lasting dark lipstick, I suggest this one by Bite or for a cheaper alternative, this one by NYX. Thanks for taking the time out of your strenuous day to read this or for procrastinating from homework by reading this instead. Be sure to stay on the lookout for my next CF article in December featuring this look, and for my first article as a Looks on Campus contributor for Collegefashion.net in January! ily all and happy fall!! jen
